Documentary + Lecture: The Canadian Muslim Mosaic

Monday, October 17 at 7:00 pm
Kingston Frontenac Public Library, Central Branch (Wilson Room)
130 Johnson St., Kingston
Come explore the story of Muslim immigration to Canada, from the early history of the community beginning in the 1800s to the experiences of recent arrivals. Today, contrary to public perception, the Muslim community in Canada is not dominated by one ethnic group. In fact, it’s a microcosm of Canada’s multicultural groups, consisting of up to 50 different ethnic groups. This event will feature a documentary viewing and a short lecture by Imam Sikander Hashmi of the Islamic Society of Kingston. The documentary will focus on the history of Muslims in Canada, with interesting historical facts and individual stories that are crucial for understanding the Canadian Muslim context. In his lecture, Imam Sikander will focus on the road forward for Canadian Muslims, their challenges and their opportunities.
